Warbird Academy Prepares To Open Its Hangar Doors To The Public
With more than 17,000 hours of total flight time, Chris Grounds will open the hangar doors of his Warbird Academy at Douglas Municipal Airport in southern Georgia on Nov. 9, 2024. Fittingly, the airport served as the home base for the 63rd Army Air Forces Flying Training Detachment Wing during World War II. There is a museum on the site, and parts of the airport are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Douglas man allegedly takes car then brings it back, arrested on car theft and meth charges
Two Coffee County deputies responded to the scene of an alleged car theft and arrested the suspect on auto theft and possession of methamphetamine charges. According to an incident report from the sheriff’s office, deputies responded to Lot 62 at 2594 Highway 32 East on July 20, 2024, in reference to a stolen vehicle. When officers arrived, they spoke with the victim who said that Lavonte Hicks, 31, of Douglas, had taken her vehicle without permission. The victim said that Hicks had been at her house “looking around outside.” She was in the home and when she came back outside, her vehicle was gone.
