John F. Kennedy Memorial Airport receives funding to upgrade runway, improve safety
Two Wisconsin airports including Ashland County’s have been awarded more than $8 million in federal funding to enhance safety, upgrade facilities and boost revenue. “Investments in our local airports are vital for improving safety, enhancing infrastructure, and supporting economic growth,” said Senator Tammy Baldwin in a news release. “This funding will help ensure that our airports in Wisconsin are well-equipped to handle increased traffic, improve safety measures, and continue to serve our communities and visitors effectively.” Waukesha County Airport will receive over $4.76 million to enhance runway safety. John F. Kennedy Memorial Airport in Ashland County will receive over $3.4 million to rehabilitate existing paved Runway 2/20 and improve safety.
Mtn. bike skills course takes shape
More upgrades are coming to Winona’s Bluffside Park (aka Holzinger Trails) as city contractors are currently building a mountain bike skills park and a multi-use trail to connect two trails constructed last year. The city of Winona is also working on other trail amenities as it expands its Bluffside Park offerings.
Amery woman gets jail time, community service for fatal Bayfield County crash
A plea agreement has ended the case against an Amery woman responsible for a fatal crash nearly two years ago. Authorities say Mariah Reindahl, 23, ran a stop sign on Highway N and struck a vehicle on Highway 27 driven by Reynold Elstad on Sept. 2, 2022 in the town of Barnes. Marshfield Common Council Approves Budget Resolutions
The Marshfield Common Council approved some budget resolutions at their meeting on Tuesday. The Council approved transferring cash from the CDBG housing program to the Wisconsin Department of Administration. The City had initially contracted with another county to run this program, but that county has discontinued their program, so they will now by using the Wisconsin Department of Administration for their housing grant program.

Tony Evers asked a federal judge Wednesday not to impose any changes at Wisconsin’s youth prison after an inmate was accused of killing a counselor during a fight earlier this summer, insisting conditions at the prison have been slowly improving despite the death.
