‘Sko Vote Den’: Native organizers plan voter registration event at Brewers tailgate
Native organizers are hoping to field new voters with a baseball-themed effort to encourage Native Americans to turn up at the polls this fall. Wisconsin Native Vote, an initiative of Wisconsin Conservation Voices, hopes to draw more than 1,000 people from the state’s 11 federally recognized tribes for a tailgate on Aug. 15 at the Milwaukee Brewers game against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Amherst Awarded $1.2 Million Action Grant for Fort River Watershed Resiliency
The Town of Amherst has been awarded a Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness (MVP) Action Grant of $1,179,700 to improve flood resiliency and water quality in the Fort River watershed. The grant was part of the Healey-Driscoll Administration award of $52.8 million to more than 70 projects across Massachusetts for climate resilience implementation and planning through the Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs’ Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness (MVP) Program. This grant implements the second phase of a project that began when Amherst was awarded a $169,250 MVP Action Grant in 2023.
Swedberg crowned late models king
Shawano’s Brett Swedberg was crowned King of the WABAM Dirt Kings Late Model Tour King of Fair at the Langlade County Fair in Antigo on July 26. Fellow Shawano driver Lukas Postl and Swedberg led the field to the green flag, with Postl taking the lead as Troy Springborn challenged Swedberg for second. Postl continued to lead as Swedberg secured second and Taylor Scheffler battled with Springborn for third. Swedberg took the lead on lap five as he raced to the inside of Postl as Scheffler followed through to second with Postl shuffled back to third.
