West Harbor Pond Watershed annual meeting Aug. 4
The West Harbor Pond Watershed Association’s annual meeting and potluck picnic will be held Sunday, Aug. 4, 1-4 p.m., at 226 Lakeside Drive. Our speaker this year will be Rebecca Jacobs, program manager for the Knox-Lincoln Soil & Water Conservation District. All members, associates, and friends of the WHPWA, and anyone with an interest in the WHPWA’s continuing work to protect the Pond’s water quality are invited to attend. We ask that you bring a side dish or a dessert for the potluck picnic. The WHPWA will provide hot dogs, buns, drinks, etc.
CMT stages tribute to Dominic Garvey in ‘Dominic’s Diner’
Carousel Music Theater (CMT) is staging “Dominic’s Diner” an hour-long tribute to Boothbay Harbor’s Dominic Garvey (1936-2015), written, directed and choreographed by Michelle Brucker. “I worked with him, from 1990-1991, and his loving guidance helped me reach my career goals. Dominic taught me so much, this show is a love letter dedicated to his memory,” she said.
Free tours at Cape Newagen Farm July 28
Cape Newagen Farm in Southport is participating in Maine Open Farm Day on Sunday, July 28. The farm is offering four hourly sessions to choose from beginning at 11 a.m. Celebrate agriculture on this special day in Maine with farms across the state open to the public to share the importance of local farming and agricultural products.
Boothbay 36ers heading to American Legion tournament
The Boothbay 36ers are heading to the American Legion Baseball State Championship tournament. Two wins in the southern zone tournament action over Central Maine Hammond Lumber and Capital Area this weekend led to their finish as one of two southern zone teams qualifying for the state tournament. On July 22, Boothbay plays Skowhegan (8-6) at 5:30 p.m. in the southern zone championship game at Thomas College in Waterville. Both teams earned spots in next weekend’s state championship tournament.

WELLS, Maine — Native tribes in Maine and New Hampshire gathered Sunday in Wells for a celebration of their heritage. It was the New Hampshire Intertribal Native American Council's 20th annual powwow. Traditionally, powwow were held by Native tribes after the winter season ended, to feast and celebrate surviving the cold weather.

Bigelow celebrates 50th anniversary with return of Café Sci series
Few people are as uniquely positioned to tell the story of Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences’ (BLOS) first 50 years as Dr. Barney Balch, and on July 16, to a crowd of about 160 at the Opera House of Boothbay Harbor, he did.
