Harvey Markey, 20, and Chas Morrow, 16, the young men charged with stealing Michael Shields’ Ford car late Sunday night, were brought back from Alpena last evening by Sheriff Slade and are now locked up in the county jail.

Both have admitted their guilt and also acknowledged breaking into James Shields’ store where they say that they got $3.75 from the cash register the same night and at Mackinaw City they broke into William Ryan’s pool room and stole a lot of punch board prizes consisting of knives, jewelry, etc. Morrow’s case will come up for hearing in the juvenile court before Judge Cross as he was only 16 years of age last March and Markey will have to run the gauntlet in the circuit court before Judge Shepherd.

Markey’s father and mother are dead but he has a sister living at Rexton and it was there that he met young Morrow. According to the story told Sheriff Slade, the two started out about nine months ago to see the world and visited nearly every state in the union and finally returned without funds and during that time never committed a wrong act according to their statements.

Their intention when they broke into the pool room at Mackinaw City and Shields’ store in this city was to get money to travel to other cities where they could earn enough money to come back to their home town well dressed. Markey says he regretted what they had done before they got to Rogers City on their way to Alpena.
