Alpine County Chamber of Commerce, California Jobs First hears Hope Valley residents’ concerns at workshop
HOPE VALLEY, Calif. – In a community workshop held June 10 by the Alpine County Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the Sierra Jobs First Collaborative, engaged residents from across Alpine County gathered to give input on a number of topics that have emerged as critical to quality job growth and equity in the Sierra region, including housing, social services, physical infrastructure, land management, workforce development, recreation and tourism, sustainable agriculture and more.
Prescribed Fire: Collaborative Experiences from Alpine County
Join us on Friday, July 26 from 9am to 3pm for the next Forest Health Community Working Group field trip! Together with CAL POLY University, we are hosting a discussion of prescribed fire in eastern Alpine County, both past and future. You will board the coach bus at Turtle Rock Park at 9am to visit different sites around Markleeville and Woodfords to engage in a discussion of the use of prescribed fire in vegetation management around our communities. Pilot and passenger identified in deadly South Lake Tahoe plane crash
Two people who were killed in a plane crash near South Lake Tahoe last week have been identified. Alpine County Sheriff’s County deputies were notified of an overdue aircraft around 1 a.m. on June 13. The aircraft’s GPS transponder was plotting in the Willow Creek area near Luther Pass.
Cousins identified as 2 killed in plane crash near South Lake Tahoe
ALPINE COUNTY – The people who were killed in a plane crash in Alpine County on Wednesday evening have been identified as cousins. The plane took off from Lodi but never made it to the South Lake Tahoe Airport. It crashed in the mountains, 10 miles south of the airport.Pilot Sam Jones and passenger Nannete Singer were killed in the crash. They were cousins and their pre-World War II plane had been in the family for generations.Nannete was 80 years old, a retired teacher and an active volunteer at the Lodi Police Department. Her daughter says she was always smiling. "I know she had no fear of getting on the plane," said Gabriella Singer, Nannete's daughter. "I've just been blessed with all of the outpouring of support from all of the people who clearly she touched which is a lot, but doesn't surprise me."Gabrielle said her mother and uncle were planning on spending the weekend at a family timeshare in Lake Tahoe.She says she is grateful volunteers were able to locate the wreckage, to bring her family closure.The NTSB is investigating the cause of the crash.
