Researchers at the University of Virginia are hoping to improve the quality of life for post-treatment cancer survivors in Appalachia. The weSurvive program provides free group and one-on-one nutrition and exercise guidance for rural, adult patients. It was created by Kathleen Porter — a registered dietitian at the UVA Cancer Center — through a $770,000 research grant from the American Cancer Society.

Algood Weighs Options To Replace Armour
Algood City Council is considering how it wants to handle the replacement of Algood Police Chief Dale Armour. City Administrator Keith Morrison said the council will decide at the August meeting whether to appoint Interim Chief Tim Terry as the new chief or to begin a search. Council To Vote On Cane Creek Design Phase
Cookeville City Council will vote Thursday night on an agreement to begin the design phase of the 31-acre expansion to Cane Creek Park. Leisure Services Director Rick Woods said the new area of the park will be on the first portion of land Cookeville originally purchased from the Cowan family next to the park’s courtside shelter. Woods said the expansion will include a parking lot, a new picnic shelter, a new restroom facility, and over a mile of new trail.
