Northern Heights transitioning to 8-Man football for 2024
The 2024 season for Northern Heights will be a new one in two different capacities. In September of 2023, the USD 251 North Lyon County Board of Education voted unanimously to move Northern Heights from 11-man to 8-man in football. During that same meeting, board members also voted unanimously for Northern Heights to depart the Flint Hills League and enter the Lyon County League. Northern Heights’ addition to the Lyon County League came as Southern Coffey County departed the league after the 2023-24 academic year and joined the Twin Rivers League in Southeast Kansas.

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - A group in Topeka hopes to combat the epidemic of violence that challenges our community. CIVIC, or the Community Inspired Violence Intervention Coalition, is a community-based collective, addressing the systems causing homicides and gun violence in Shawnee County. This team of organizations and community members formed after a record-breaking year of violence in 2023.
