Republican businessman Ted Danz hopes for upset in Capital Region state Senate race
The race for an open New York state Senate seat rekindles an old rivalry. In office since 1997, Democrat Neil Breslin is the longest-tenured Senator in the chamber. The 82-year-old from the 46th district decided not to seek another term early this year. Party leaders were quick to promote state Assemblymember Pat Fahy of the 109th district to run in Breslin’s stead this fall, and any other Democrats who had interest in running for Breslin's seat quickly dropped off the radar.

Here's why a reunion between Sammy Hagar and the New York State Trooper who inspired one of his biggest hits won't get to happen. Sammy Hagar will be performing at SPAC on Monday July 22, 2024. He has some serious history with Upstate New York and our area. However it appears he was going a little too fast and ended up with a now famous speeding ticket.

Billings ‘malls’ Albany for Arena Bowl XXXIII championship
They used to play a bowl game in Atlantic City Convention Hall. Yes, a football game indoors in a venue that was far from a domed stadium. New Jersey went that one better on Friday as the Billings Outlaws defeated the Albany Firebirds, 46-41, in Arena Bowl XXXIII. How was the Boardwalk Bowl one-upped in the Garden State? The Arena League Championship was played in a mall. Yes, a shopping mall. Reservoir buffer protects our drinking water
I am writing to state my objection to any approval of the application by Michael Floccuzio, owner of the parcel at 4478 Western Turnpike, that allows for construction within the 500-foot buffer zone [of the Watervliet Reservoir]. The owner purchased said property knowing the aforementioned limitations. This buffer protects our...
Saddened and scared by swift disbanding of Westerlo Planning Board
The only thing “going rogue” in the town of Westerlo is our town board, which is being led by an inept lawyer, who instead of giving advice when called upon, directs the town supervisor on what to do next. My name has been smeared in town as someone...

REVIEW: “Beautiful: The Carole King Musical” at theREP
When we think of the legendary Carole King, we most often picture her on the cover of her second studio album, Tapestry, sitting on a windowsill with her cat. The year was 1971. Many of us know all the lyrics, and fondly remember singing along. Most are unaware, however, that King, originally, Carole Klein, had a thriving career writing hit songs for others until she had the courage to perform her own work. The story of her early years, starting at age 16, is the subject of Beautiful: the Carole King Musical, book by Douglas McGrath, music and lyrics by Carole King, Gerry Goffin, Barry Mann, and Cynthia Weil, being performed at The REP in Albany, New York.
