Slipknot member Clown recently opened up on continuing the band after the deaths of Joey Jordison and Paul Gray.

Clown talks about carrying on with Slipknot

Slipknot is currently celebrating the 25th anniversary of its self-titled debut. The band has come a long way since then, and many things have changed. This includes an exploration of different facets of sound and emotion, as well as changes within the band members themselves.

Percussionist and founding member Shawn “Clown” Crahan spoke about these changes in an interview with Metal Hammer . The musician noted that the band is vastly different compared to the old days:

“Brother, the band will never be like that again. I can’t tell you how close we were then: we’re not that close anymore. People are gone. Craig’s [Jones] out, Chris [Fehn] is out, Joey’s [Jordison] out, Paul’s [Gray] out.”

“The band is different. But, back then, there was nine guys that wanted to be in the same place, and we made it work. And we wound up here, which is wonderful.”

Crahan continued and extolled the contributions of late members Joey Jordison and Paul Gray, while stating the band needed to continue without them. However, never forgot their influence:

“Joey and Paul… Oh my God, they wrote this shit man. Number 1 and Number 2. The path changed for us after they passed, and we had to keep going, and take a new path, but that doesn’t mean that we don’t know where we came from, or ever forget what brought us here.”

Slipknot are currently touring North America to celebrate 25 years of their debut album. The band will also play a run of shows across Europe in December.
