Alex Van Halen recently honored his late brother, Eddie Van Halen, on Instagram for the anniversary of Eddie’s passing. In a rare social media post, Alex shared a photo of Eddie with a simple caption: “Miss you, Ed.” He typically reserves posts for significant moments related to his brother, but he did previously ignore Michael Anthony .

Wolfgang Van Halen, Eddie’s son, also paid tribute by sharing a photo of himself with his father, without any caption. Alex responded with red heart emojis. Eddie’s widow, Janie Van Halen, expressed her love and grief on Instagram, writing, “Some count how long you have been gone, I count how long until I am with you again. I love you and miss you so very much.”

Last month, Alex posted a short clip of Eddie’s final song, “Unfinished,” along with details about his upcoming autobiography, Brothers , which will be released on October 22. The audiobook will feature the last song he and Eddie worked on, played while Alex narrates his story. Alex described the memoir as a “love letter” to his brother, saying it’s his way of saying goodbye.

In Brothers , Alex reflects on their shared life experiences, from immigrating to the U.S. together to their rise in Van Halen, battles with alcoholism, and becoming fathers. The 384-page autobiography chronicles their journey from childhood to Eddie’s death in 2020. Alex noted that the book is his tribute to Eddie, saying,

“Ed, I love you and miss you. When I see you again, I’m gonna kick your a**!”

“I was with him from day one. We shared the experience of coming to this country and figuring out how to fit in. We shared a record player, an 800-square-foot house, a mom and dad, and a work ethic,” the drummer also shared.

He added, “Later, we shared the back of a tour bus, alcoholism, the experience of becoming famous, of becoming fathers and uncles, and of spending more hours in the studio than I’ve spent doing anything else in this life. We shared a depth of understanding that most people can only hope to achieve in a lifetime.”
