Kerry Brown, ex-husband of D’arcy Wretzky, recently opened up on D’arcy and Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan.

Kerry Brown talks about D’arcy Wretzky

Brown took to his Instagram account and posted a video with the caption that read:

“No one understood our relationship not even Billy Corgan who introduced us and was like dude what? D’arcy and I were certainly the black sheep in a world of misfits and broken souls.. I guess we were each others emotional support humans at a very strange and fascinating time in our life.. we went from how are we going to pay rent in our $325 dollar a month garden apartment in Chicago to one of the biggest bands in the world within two years. I wouldn’t know how many people she inspired but my guess is hundreds if not thousands of young woman to pick up an instrument and go out there and do it! The only thing stopping you is you.. but the simple fact is we just didn’t have the tools to deal with it all, the fame, the lack of sleep, anything healthy, the temptations, the rock n roll life… it’s a lot. she just popped into my head and I hope she is doing well and happy! X”

    In another comment, he wrote:

“Should would “steal” my shirts all the time.. all the cool ones were mine… but she may have bought Grover.. I can’t remember if I bought that one or if she did.. its all a bit of a fuzzy time.. goodwill thrift stores were definitely better then than they are now”

In the span of a decade, The Smashing Pumpkins filled stadiums and became the most glamorous and revered outsiders of alternative rock. However, in 1999, the group unexpectedly dismissed their guitarist due to uncontrollable drug addiction. She disappeared without a trace.

Nearly 20 years later, during a reunion of the band’s original members, D’Arcy Wretzky reemerged. Having retired from music, she was living on a farm, training horses and practicing martial arts. She claimed to be “much healthier and in better shape” than any of her former bandmates and took the opportunity to speak her truth about one of the most bitter, controversial, and prolonged feuds in the music scene.

Wretzky played bass for The Smashing Pumpkins during their first five albums, which catapulted them as a generational band that managed to fill stadiums in just a few hours with tens of thousands of young people dressed in black.

Smashing Pumpkins’ latest studio release, Aghori Mhori Mei (shown above), sees the band dialing back to their roots as a lyrically rich, heavy-riffing, pile-driving rock band. To most, that would mean less Adore (1998) and Autum (2022-23) and more Oceania (2012), Gish (1991) and Siamese Dream (1993), or dare we say — Zeitgeist (2007).
