ALTOONA, Pa. (WTAJ) — The Second Avenue Global Methodist Church invited people to bring their pets for an outdoor blessing on Sunday.

It was the first time that the church ever did something like this. There were a total of 17 pets: 16 dogs and one bunny.

“Animals are a definite blessing from God. And there are members of the family that unconditional love and support they show is truly a blessing, as my dogs called me. So we did this blessing to just remind people that God blesses his children when they love On his creation,” Lead Pastor Brian Sandell said.

The blessing started at 3:30 p.m. with introductions of everyone’s pet. After, the pastor prayed for each animal and asked for strength for them.

“You don’t know how long you’ll have them and allow them to – to bless you. Make good common sense decisions and if you’re going to own a pet, make sure you’re ready for the responsibility,” Sandell said.
