ALTOONA, Pa. (WTAJ) — A house fire in the Lakemont section of Altoona was caused by residential fireworks, Logan Township Police reported.

Police were called around 8:30 p.m. July 4 for a structure fire on Shand Avenue.

Through the course of the investigation, it was determined that 18-year-old William Wertz and a 15-year-old unnamed teen set off a firework that set fire to the home. Police said they were not 150 feet from the building when they set off the fireworks.

A resident of the home was able to put out the fire with a garden hose before first responders arrived.

The damage to the house was considered moderate, but livable.
