(WTAJ) — It’s hard to believe it’s already back to school time, but the new year is quickly approaching and a chance to grab a free backpack is coming up at multiple locations in the area.

Verizon-authorized retailer Round Room, LLC, is giving away $3 million worth of free backpacks this year at its 12th annual “School Rocks Backpack Giveaway” event.

The event takes place at 13 locations around the area on July 28, starting at 1 p.m. Round Room said the Verizon/Wireless Zone locations are as follows:

    • 5580 Goods Lane, Altoona (Logan Valley Mall)
    • 420 Blair Street, Hollidaysburg
    • 300 Spring Avenue, Roaring Spring
    • 592 Galleria Drive, Johnstown
    • 2615 E. College Avenue, State College
    • 141 S. Allegheny Street, Bellefonte
    • 216 N. 2nd Street, Clearfield
    • 1061 N. Front Street, Philipsburg
    • 863A S. Saint Marys Street, Saint Marys
    • 6684 Towne Center Blvd, Huntingdon
    • 231 Allegheny Blvd, Brookville
    • 21890 Route 119, Punxsutawney
    • 2066 N. Center Avenue, Somerset

Round Room said that 10 lucky students will receive a “golden ruler” and receive a gift for themselves and for their school.

“All at the same time, on the same Sunday afternoon, there’s a simultaneous period of giving at our TCC and Wireless Zone stores around the country. It’s a beautiful thing,” Scott Moorehead, CEO of Round Room said in a release. “We believe in the power of community and the importance of education, which is why this initiative is so important to everyone throughout the Round Room organization.

Backpacks are typically a higher priced item when it comes to back-to-school shopping and Round Room added that they hope to alleviate some of the financial burden for hundreds of families while providing family-friendly activities during the event.
