ALTUS ( KFDX/KJTL ) — A U.S. Air Force general has been court-martialed after allegedly flying a C-17 transport plane at Altus Air Force Base following a night of drinking, according to a report in the AVweb aviation news site.

Air Force Major General Phillip Stewart has been fined $60,000 in a court martial and confined to Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph for six months after flying a C-17 from Altus AFB in low-level maneuvers after a night of drinking in which he allegedly had inappropriate relations with a subordinate officer, AVweb reported on July 2, 2024.

After facing an unprecedented court martial by eight generals, all with higher ranks, Stewart admitted to some of his charges, including adultery, conduct unbecoming of an officer and dereliction of duty, according to Air Force Times .

The incidents allegedly occurred at Altus Air Force Base during a trip in mid-2023.

According to Air Force Times , Stewart, who is a two-star general, reportedly engaged in sexual conduct with the female officer but was found not guilty of sexual assault, avoiding what could have been a decades-long prison sentence.

The following morning, Stewart flew a C-17 transport plane out of Altus, the woman testified, violating the “Bottle to Throttle” rule.

Air Force Times reported that Stewart is only the second general officer in the Air Force to face court-martial on sexual misconduct charges and the third to be arraigned on military charges.
