DPS: 1 killed in crash near Darrouzett Monday night

One person was killed and another injured in a crash involving a vehicle and tractor on Monday night in Lipscomb County.

A John Deere tractor, with an unknown year and model, was heading west on Highway 15 approximately 3.5 miles west of Darrouzett, traveling on a slope east of County Road 10, the Texas Department of Public Safety said. At the same time around 7:05 p.m., a 2022 GMC Sierra was also going west on the highway and approaching the rear of the tractor.

Due to the low light and the tractor "not having marked illuminated placards," the pickup truck's driver did not see the tractor before it collided with the rear of the tractor, DPS said.

The driver of the tractor, identified as Dennis Gensman, 72, of Darrouzett, was pronounced dead at the scene by EMT Jonathan Sell.

The driver of the pickup was taken to Ochiltree General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The road conditions were dry pavement with clear weather, with a posted speed limit of 75 mph.

The crash remains under investigation.
