    CANYON, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — The Texas Panhandle Heritage Foundation is presenting Shakespeare in the Canyon with this year’s show, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, running every Tuesday in July starting on July 9 in Palo Duro Canyon.

    “A Midsummer Night’s Dream is Shakespeare’s most accessible comedy: love, fun, fantasy, spectacle, music, dance, and a happy conclusion,” said Royal Brantley, Director.

    “But the script’s bonus is the play within the play, which is rehearsed and presented by the “rude mechanicals.” The intended tragedy of Pyramus and Thisbe becomes a farce, as Shakespeare burlesques and takes several jabs at the theatre of his time,” Brantley said. “Though it has nothing to do with the plot, the “tedious brief scene of young Pyramus and his love Thisbe” brings all the characters together and assists with the play’s celebration of love and marriage.”

    According to TEXAS Outdoor Musical officials, guests can expect a show that will feature the acting, singing, and dancing abilities of the TEXAS company.

    “And the talent of this company, which uses the talented cast of TEXAS Outdoor Musical, alone is reason to return to the canyon to see some excellent Shakespeare,” said Brantley.

    TEXAS Outdoor Musical officials also noted the schedule for the 2024 season of Shakespeare in the Canyon includes:

    • Tuesdays in July: 9, 16, 23, 30:
    • 6:30 p.m. Amphitheatre, Concession, Box Office and Parking Opens;
    • 7 p.m. -7:30 p.m. Pre-Show Entertainment;
    • 7:40 p.m. Amphitheatre Seating Opens; and
    • 8:00 p.m. Show

    Officials said that kids get in free and turkey legs will be available at the concession stands. Tickets and information are available online or by calling the box office at 806-651-2181.
