    School supply prices continue to rise in 2024

    AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — A study with the National Retail Federation revealed that back-to-school supply prices continues to rise for American households. In 2023 back-to-school shopping budgets were $890.07 for the average Kindergarten through 12th grade student household, $597 for one child.

    This year, the NRF project that the price per household will rise to $918, which is a $28 increase from last year.

    According to the study majority of households back-to-school spending goes toward electronics and computer-related equipment.

    The NRF detailed that for most K-12 families, back-to-school shopping includes items beyond the standard school supply list, such as shoes and clothes for the upcoming school year.

    Parents with kids heading to a college campus next year will be met with a more expensive back to school bill due to more products and more purchases. In 2023, the average household spent $1,366.95 on back-to-college shopping.
