AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — The Texas Department of Transportation Amarillo Division to begin the Hope Road bridge project on July 25.

According to TxDOT officials, Altus Construction LLC. crews will begin replacing the Hope Road bridge on IH-40 on Thursday, just west of Amarillo.

Officials noted the $10.2 million bridge project is expected to be completed in early 2025 and noted that the bridge itself is nearing the end of its service life and in need of upgrades. Upgrades to the bridge include increased vertical clearance for the IH-40 freight corridor as well as pedestrian and bicyclist accommodations along Hope Road.

TxDOT officials stated that drivers can anticipate the following lane and ramp closures:

    • IH-40 westbound frontage road from Helium Road to BI-40
    • Westbound BI-40 to IH-40 frontage road exit ramp
    • IH-40 westbound entrance ramp from Hope Road
    • IH-40 eastbound exit ramp 62A to Hope Road
    • IH-40 eastbound entrance ramp from Arnot Road
    • IH-40 south frontage road from eastbound exit ramp 62A to Hope Road intersection
    • Eastbound exit ramp 62B for Amarillo Boulevard

Officials stated that the closures will happen intermittently through the project depending on the work being performed at that time.
