AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — The Texas Department of Public Safety held a boat dedication ceremony to honor fallen Texas Highway Patrol Trooper Matthew Dewayne Myrick on July 26.

According to DPS officials, Myrick died in a vehicle crash while responding to a call on Jan. 20, 2006, and in 2021, a portion of U.S. Highway 60 was also dedicated to Myrick.

Officials noted that members of Myrick’s family, Texas State Representative Four Price, R-Texas District 87, DPS Northwest Texas Regional Director Joe Longway, and Texas Highway Patrol Chief Bryan Rippee, as well as fellow troopers, area law enforcement, and other elected leaders will be in attendance.

The dedication ceremony begins at the Texas Panhandle War Memorial at 10 a.m.
