AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) – The Friends of the Amarillo Public Library hosted another year of AMA-CON this weekend.

The event will continue tomorrow at Amarillo Civic Center from 12 p.m. until 6 p.m., the pass will be $8 dollars for the entire day.

“So we like to call AMA-CON a celebration of everything that’s geeky and awesome. So if you are into comic books, if you’re into manga, anime, gaming, science fiction, if you’re in any of those things,” said Stacy Clopton Amarillo Public Library Coordinator of PR and Programming. “AMA-CON is a great place to come and spend the weekend.”

During this event, there are many in Cosplay and also enjoying all of that there is to do. Special Guests were also at the convention like Morgan Berry. Berry is a voice actor and has done work for Pokémon and Dragon Ball Super.

“There is one character that was a definite challenge for me, and that was Belle in Beyblade, Brust QuadDriv. “I’m so grateful to be in the Beyblade franchise. That is so cool, especially to be a protagonist in it, you know because I grew up with that show,” said Berry. “But that one was difficult because there was a lot of maniacal laughter.”

This event is not only a way for like-minded people to come together, but it also gives back to the community.

“Amacon is hosted by Friends of the Amarillo Public Library. The Friends are an independent nonprofit organization. Their mission is to support the library by providing funds for projects that are not covered by taxpayer dollars,” said Clopton. “Taxpayer dollars do not pay for one of the most important things we do, which is the summer reading club. So that is a really expensive program. It has a lot to do with helping kids stay on track throughout the summer.”
