King Of The River Contest Goes Into Extra Innings
A rainout for the Peninsula Oilers last Saturday means the 2nd Annual King of the River Food Drive competition is getting some extra time this year. The contest, pitting the cities of Kenai and Soldotna against one another in a bid to see which can bring more food to the Kenai Peninsula Food Bank, will now conclude on July 26.

Body of missing Kiana boater found in Kobuk River
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - The body of a missing Kiana boater was found on Friday morning after a dayslong search in Northwest Alaska, according to Alaska State Troopers. Troopers reported that boat crews found 30-year-old Brandon Sheldon at 8:45 a.m. Friday in the Kobuk River, upstream of Noorvik. Sheldon had been missing since Monday night when he and four others spilled into the cold river during a capsizing event. After surviving the mishap, Sheldon’s boatmates contacted local villages on a handheld VHF radio.

Alaska Hockey Hosts All-Women’s Camp on August 21-23
