Mega Millions winning numbers for August 9 drawing: Jackpot now worth $405 million

The winning numbers for Friday's Mega Millions drawing are: 12, 32, 38, 40, 57, with the Mega Ball being 21 and the Megaplier set at 2X.

How to Play Mega Millions

To participate, purchase a ticket from a local convenience store, gas station, or grocery store. In some states, you can also buy tickets online. To play, choose six numbers: five white balls ranging from 1 to 70 and one gold Mega Ball number between 1 and 25. If you prefer a random selection, request a "Quick Pick" or "Easy Pick" and the computer will generate the numbers for you.

For an additional $1, you can add the "Megaplier," which can multiply your non-jackpot winnings by two, three, four, or five times. The Megaplier is drawn before the Mega Millions numbers on both Tuesday and Friday nights.

The Megaplier includes the following options:

- 2X (five balls)

- 3X (six balls)

- 4X (three balls)

- 5X (one ball)

Where to Buy Lottery Tickets

You can buy lottery tickets in person at gas stations, convenience stores, grocery stores, and occasionally at airport terminals.
