UPDATE: Arrest made in apartment complex shooting

A 22-year-old Lake Charles man has been arrested in a Monday afternoon shooting at a Winterhalter Street apartment complex.

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Kayla Vincent said Laiyn D. Pete turned himself in at about 3 p.m. Tuesday.

He has been charged with illegal use of a dangerous weapon and violation of a firearm free zone. Judge Tony Fazio set his bond at $212,500.

Vincent said detectives believe the shooting may be linked to an earlier altercation between Pete and the victim, who has been released from the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Detectives are currently continuing their investigation, examining evidence and interviewing witnesses.
