6 of the Most Slept-on Rock Bands From the 2000s

The 2000s were a great decade for rock music across countless genres. Still, a lot of trailblazers during that era haven’t gotten quite as much attention as they deserve. Let’s look at six of the most underrated rock bands from the 2000s!

1. The Thermals

This lo-fi rock band on the indie side of the spectrum was a pretty instantaneous hit after releasing More Parts Per Million in 2003. They’ve since put out consistently good music that has changed and evolved in all the right ways since the 2000s.

2. Wolf Parade

Wolf Parade deserves a lot more attention. They’re one of the most underrated rock bands from the 2000s, without a doubt. Their debut album Apologies To The Queen Mary is essential listening, as are their newer releases.

3. The Used

Alright, everybody has heard of The Used. Maybe this alternative rock band isn’t entirely worthy of being on a list of the most underrated rock bands from the 2000s. Still, we think they could have been mainstream-big in the first decade of the band’s existence. Their first two albums, The Used from 2002 and In Love And Death from 2004, are incredible pieces of work.

4. Against Me!

Whether or not Against Me! is an underrated rock band from the 2000s is debatable. They’ve gotten a lot of love, especially frontwoman Laura Jane Grace. Still, we think the punk alt-rock outfit deserves a lot more credit for presenting anarcho-punk music to a new generation of young listeners. Against Me! Is Reinventing Axl Rose is one of their best albums.

5. Silversun Pickups

Silversun Pickups’ hit “Lazy Eye” from 2006 was the kind of viral song that didn’t get old the way other songs did. That is simply because Brian Aubert’s songwriting is fantastic. Some might view them as one-hit wonders, but we think the rest of their discography rivals their biggest hit, thus earning them a spot on this list.

6. Frightened Rabbit

One can only wonder what Frightened Rabbit would have become if Scott Hutchison’s untimely death had never happened. At the very least, we can enjoy some of the stellar pieces of music that the indie rock outfit released in the early aughts. Sing The Greys from 2006 and The Midnight Organ Fight from 2008 are essential listening for any indie rock/folk fan.
