Sierra Ferrell has once again delivered an amazing cover of a classic song. Previously, she’s performed “Jackson” by June Carter and Johnny Cash with Post Malone, as well as “Neon Moon” by Brooks & Dunn alongside Nikki Lane. She’s also covered the Beatles’ “Don’t Let Me Down,” putting her powerful vocals on display. Now, she’s covered Wanda Jackson’s 1961 B-side “Funnel of Love.”

Recorded in February this year during a Mirror Mirror Network session, the video of “Funnel of Love” is now being released. Earlier, Mirror Mirror released her recording of Sam Cook’s “Cupid,” and are now dropping more from that session.

Ferrell took the song to incredible heights, showcasing her unique vocal style and ability to wear multiple hats—she broke out her “ol’ trusty rusty saw” for this performance, according to the Instagram post. True, in the video, among the rock and roll guitar and 1960s-style sound, there’s Sierra Ferrell playing a rusty, warbling saw.

Vocally, Ferrell is perfect for this Wanda Jackson song. “Funnel of Love” was released as a B-side to Jackson’s more well-known song “Right or Wrong,” where Jackson smooths out her vocals into a twangy yet silky performance. However, on “Funnel of Love,” she lets her voice crack and fray, giving the song an utterly unique sound. Ferrell replicates that sound in her own performance, allowing her voice to get gravelly and grungy.

Fans in the comments of the Instagram clip praised Sierra Ferrell’s cover, showering her with love and support. One fan wrote, “Long time fans like my circle aren’t surprised one bit. She’ll pull anything out of that hat of hers. Nashville’s best and they don’t own a single strand of her … She’s the best that Nashville’s got, and may ever have, in my opinion. Make it weird, Ms. Ferrell, for however long you may please. We’re havin’ a good time on your account.”

Singer-songwriter Margo Price simply commented, “This is so good,” while Brandi Carlile wrote, in all caps, “RAD.” Duane Betts shared praise as well, writing, “Oh lord. She is badass.” Other fans commented, “What can’t she do? She is truly one of a kind.” Additionally, some fans asked for a physical recording on the song on 7″ vinyl or digitally on Spotify.
