A 2024 edition of the star-studded tour celebrating The Band’s historic 1976 farewell concert, “The Last Waltz,” will take place this fall.

The trek, dubbed “Life Is a Carnival: Last Waltz Tour ’24,” will kick off October 19 in San Francisco. The outing is mapped out through a November 16 show in Toronto. The lineup of artists who’ll take part in the concerts includes Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers members Mike Campbell and Benmont Tench, Ryan Bingham, Jamey Johnson, Don Was, Dave Malone of The Radiators, Cyril Neville, John Medeski, and ex-Dirty Dozen Brass Band drummer Terence Higgins.

Besides celebrating “The Last Waltz” concert, the tour will salute Band co-founder, guitarist, and principal songwriter Robbie Robertson, who died of cancer in August 2023 at age 80.

“This band, made up of these artists, playing these songs, is what Don [Was] and I dreamed of when we began planning this tour,” said Keith Wortman, founder of the Blackbird Presents promotion company. “Now the dream is a reality. Do not miss these shows!” Wortman is the creator and producer of “The Last Waltz Tour” franchise, which began in 2016 as a two-show event in New Orleans celebrating the historic concert’s 40th anniversary.

About the All-Star One-Off Robbie Robertson Tribute Concert

The trek will kick off two days after the recently announced all-star tribute show “Life Is a Carnival: A Musical Celebration of Robbie Robertson.” That event is scheduled for October 17 at the Kia Forum in Inglewood, California.

Life Is a Carnival tour participants Campbell, Tench, Was, Bingham, and Johnson also will perform at the Inglewood show. Wortman also is involved in producing the concert.

    More About “The Last Waltz”

“The Last Waltz” was the final concert The Band’s five original members played together. The show took place on Thanksgiving Day, November 25, 1976. Joining the group at the event was an awe-inspiring list of guest stars that included Bob Dylan, Clapton, Morrison, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Ringo Starr, Muddy Waters, and more.

The show was captured by director Martin Scorsese for the acclaimed 1978 concert film and documentary of the same name.
