An official trailer has debuted for the archival Paul McCartney & Wings documentary One Hand Clapping, which will begin a limited run in select theaters starting September 26. The film captures McCartney and his post-Beatles band performing live at Abbey Road Studios in London during a series of sessions in August 1974.

The video shows a montage of clips of McCartney and his bandmates, and includes footage and audio of them performing the then-unreleased tune “Soily.” The promo also features film of Paul, wife Linda, and other Wings members recording handclaps, and of drummer Geoff Britton comically showing off some martial arts moves. In addition, the trailer offers a glimpse of McCartney during his previously reported “Backyard Sessions” performance.

More About the One Hand Clapping Project

In June, McCartney released the One Hand Clapping audio collection, featuring live recordings he and Wings made over a four-day period at Abbey Road in August 1974. The sessions were filmed for a documentary that was shelved at the time.

The One Hand Clapping movie offers a behind-the-scenes look at McCartney and Wings, and includes performances of various songs. The film features interviews with the band members, between-song dialogue, commentary from the project’s creative team, and much more.

The documentary was directed by filmmaker David Litchfield, and originally was shot on videotape that’s been restored at 4K resolution. Screenings of the movie will feature a newly filmed introduction from McCartney, plus previously unseen Polaroid pics from the sessions. The presentation also will include the aforementioned “Backyard Sessions,” which capture McCartney playing several songs on acoustic guitar solo in a garden on the Abbey Road grounds.

Material performed by McCartney and Wings included songs from the group’s then-latest album Band on the Run, Paul’s solo work, Beatles tunes, and select covers.

    New McCartney Photo Exhibit News

McCartney’s archival photo exhibit, “Paul McCartney Photographs 1963-64: Eyes of the Storm,” which has visited several cities around the world during the last couple of years, now is scheduled to open at the de Young Museum in San Francisco next year. The exhibition’s stint at the museum will run from March 1 to July 6, 2025.

The exhibit currently is on display at the Brooklyn Museum in New York City and at Tokyo City View in Tokyo, Japan. It will close at those locations on August 18 and September 24, respectively.

The exhibition also is scheduled to be displayed at the Portland Art Museum in Portland, Oregon, from September 14 to January 19, 2025, and at the Knowledge Capital Event Lab in Osaka, Japan, from October 12 to January 5, 2025.

The exhibit features photos that appear in McCartney’s 2023 coffee-table book, 1964: Eyes of the Storm. Paul took the pics in 1963 and ’64, while the Fab Four were in the middle of the Beatlemania craze.
