“This Is a Song by My Favorite Songwriter”: Willie Nelson’s Son Nails Tribute Cover of Dad’s Classic Song

While growing up with famous singers as parents, some children try to follow in their parent’s footsteps when it comes to careers. But it doesn’t always work out even with famous parents. Yet for Lukas Nelson, his career in the spotlight continues to flourish. Releasing several studio albums, the country singer grew up with the iconic Willie Nelson as his father. Growing up with a rich history of country music around the house, Lukas followed his father to the stage, entertaining fans all over the world. And with Willie having such an impact on his life and career, Lukas once called his father his favorite songwriter.

Taking the stage, Lukas, not known for his long speeches, decided to share one of his favorite songwriters. But instead of telling the name to fans, he went ahead and performed one of his famous songs, “Angel Flying Too Close to the Ground.” For any fan of country music, they know the song gained fame thanks to Willie. The song was featured in the film Honeysuckle Rose. Throughout the years, the song was covered by several famous singers like Bob Dylan. But few compare to the performance by Lukas.

Lukas Nelson Shares His Many Hats In The Music Industry

Looking at what fans had to say, comments included, “Thanks for keeping your dad’s music and voice alive and ongoing. We love him and cherish what he has brought us for years.” Another comment continued, “I saw him recently in concert. Mesmerizing. His voice was his dad’s and yet his own! So happy a new generation of Willie Nelson graces our world.”

While his father is Willie Nelson, Lukas explained how his career came with a great deal of hard work. Speaking with Holler, he shared a look into his life in music, revealing, “I work hard. I’m singularly focused on writing music and wanting to write good songs that connect with people. I have my influences from how I grew up and they’re varied. I take what I grew up with and I put it together with my experience and out pours my music. I’m a musician, singer, performer, songwriter, producer. Whatever you want.”

With his father his favorite songwriter, it appears the greatest influence on Lukas happened to be the person who helped raise him.
