The Weekend has consistently dominated other artists in Spotify monthly listeners. However, there is a new leader as of Sunday (Aug. 18.) Keep reading to learn who topped the “Blinding Lights” singer this month.

The Weeknd Drops to Spotify’s No. 2 Most-Streamed Monthly Artist

According to a post from the X/Twitter account @spotify_data, Billie Eilish has eclipsed The Weeknd as Spotify’s most-streamed monthly artist.

Listeners have streamed the “Birds of a Feather” singer 100.1 million times, making her only the third-ever artist to pass the 100 million mark. At 22, Eilish is also the youngest artist to ever reach this milestone, behind The Weeknd and Taylor Swift.

The X/Twitter account Billie Eilish Charts reported Aug. 15 that the Oscar winner was less than 1 million Spotify listeners shy of the No. 1 spot. The Weekend (real name: Abel Tesfaye) re-tweeted the post with a message of support for his fellow artist.

    “Let’s go!” wrote the Canadian singer-songwriter, 34.

According to Billboard, Eilish currently has eight of her 82 songs in Spotify’s Billions Club, which includes tracks that have surpassed one billion streams: “Lovely” with Khalid (2.8 billion plays to date), “Bad Guy” (2.5 billion), “When the Party’s Over” (1.8 billion), “Everything I Wanted” (1.6 billion), “Ocean Eyes” (1.4 billion), “Happier Than Ever” (1.3 billion), “Idontwannabeyouanymore” (1.09 billion) and “Bury a Friend” (1.01 billion).

Billie Eilish Leads the Way Amid Platform-Wide Free Fall

Although Billie Eilish overtook The Weeknd in monthly listeners, data from Spotify shows both artists’ numbers have slipped by more than 1 million since July. In fact, every top 10 artist posted similar numbers. Even Taylor Swift (No. 3) dropped by 1.1 million.

Listeners highlighted the downward trend on social media. “Damn see red,” one X/Twitter user wrote. “Everyone minus.”

That was the general consensus of the thread, with another user adding, “i love how everyone’s falling.”

According to a post on Lady Gaga fansite Gaga Daily, dozens of artists lost millions of monthly Spotify listeners in the last three days, including Miley Cyrus, Sabrina Carpenter and Ariana Grande.

“They all went to stream Charli XCX’s Brat instead,” one user joked.
