The 2024 MTV Video Music Awards are just around the corner. Initially slated for Sept. 10, MTV moved the VMAs one day to avoid conflicting with the first presidential debate between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump. Now, the ceremony will take place Sept. 11, at UBS Arena in New York City. On Tuesday (Aug. 20), the network announced the second batch of performers.

Benson Boone Will Make His VMAs Debut

MTV has already announced Sabrina Carpenter, Chappell Roan, Camila Cabello, GloRilla, and Rauw Alejandro as the first crop of performers for this year’s ceremony. Now, the network has confirmed that Lenny Kravitz will also take the stage, along with Halsey, Lisa, and American Idol dropout Benson Boone.

Boone, 21, will make his VMAs debut after opening for Taylor Swift during her three-night London stop on the “Eras” tour in June. The “Beautiful Things” singer previously competed on season 19 of American Idol, and seemed like a contender for the crown until he inexplicably quit after making the Top 24.

Thai rapper Lisa previously performed at the 2022 VMAs with the Taylor Swift-approved South Korean girl group Blackpink. Electro-pop sensation Halsey hasn’t taken the VMAs stage since 2016, when she teamed up with The Chainsmokers for “Closer.”

However, the longest gap between performances belongs to Lenny Kravitz. The four-time GRAMMY Award winner, 60, last appeared onstage at the VMAs in 1998, when he joined Madonna on “Ray of Light.”

The “Fly Away” singer released his 12th studio album, Blue Electric Light, in May. Kravitz will support the album with a five-day Las Vegas residency beginning Oct. 18.

Who Has The Most Nominations This Year?

Taylor Swift leads all 2024 VMA nominees with 10 nods. Post Malone isn’t far behind his collaborator with nine nominations. Ariana Grande follows with six.

“Fortnight,” Swift’s collaboration with Post Malone, is up for eight awards at this year’s VMAs. That includes Video of the Year, and if it wins, Swift will become the only artist to ever win the sought-after award five times and three times in a row.
