Miranda Lambert is gearing up to release her first album with new label partners Republic Records in September. She’s working hard to promote the new record, playing shows across the country and making press stops along the way. In a recent interview, she revealed that she’s able to handle the chaos of a new album cycle because she took time to recharge after experiencing burnout last year.

Lambert appeared on a recent episode of Bunnie Xo’s Dumb Blonde podcast to talk about Postcards from Texas and other aspects of her career. During the conversation, she revealed that she had to take some time to recharge after suffering from burnout last summer.

Miranda Lambert on the Importance of Taking a Break

Last summer, Miranda Lambert found that her passion for making music was starting to fade. “I reached a pretty high level of burnout last summer and I didn’t realize what it was until I was like, ‘I think this is what they call burnout,’” she told Bunnie Xo. She said that it came from “Not taking a break, or a long enough one,” from her two-decade-long career. “A couple of days at a time just wasn’t enough for the amount of business,” she explained.

She realized that she needed to take an extended break to let herself recharge. However, she knew that she didn’t want to walk away from making music for good. Instead, she just needed to take a step back. As a result, she and her husband took an extended overseas vacation. They went to Europe and visited several countries before coming back to the United States.

“I feel like we need to learn balance,” Lambert said. “It’s really hard, when you’re so driven, to relax,” she added. “If you don’t recharge, you’re only operating at 50% anyway. The recharging is so important, it’s just hard to do.”

    From Italy, with Wisdom

Lambert revealed that she and her husband recently returned from a two-week trip to Italy. While there, she learned important lessons about balance from the Italians. “They just do life better over there,” she said. “Everything is slowed down. We’re just chaotic Americans chasing all our dreams and doing everything really fast,” she added. At the same time, she still can’t find it in herself to live life at a slower pace. “It’s fun for a few days and then I’m like, ‘Where’s all the action? Where’s the loudness?’”

Lambert will have no trouble finding loud action as she continues to tour across the country in preparation for her next album.
