No Plans to Stop Playing Shows

In July, Joel ended his monthly residency at Madison Square Garden in New York City after more than 10 years. In a recent interview that aired on NBC’s Sunday Today, Billy was asked whether he’d consider retiring from performing, and he revealed that he received some interesting feedback from two fellow music legends.

“I’m not gonna stop doing shows. That’s what I do,” Joel said. He then noted, “I asked a couple of contemporaries, [Don] Henley [and Bruce] Springsteen, ‘What are you gonna do now?’ And they said the same thing, ‘Well, [I’m] gonna keep performing.’ ‘Why?’ ‘’Cause that’s what I do.’ ‘Oh. Right. OK, good idea.’”

Joel added, “What else am I gonna do, stop doing shows and sit around and watch TV, [turn] into a vegetable? No, I don’t want to do that.”
