Last month, Benjamin Tod announced his next solo album, Shooting Star. The forthcoming project sees Tod stepping out of his comfort zone and away from the string band or solo acoustic music he has been making for more than a decade both solo and with Lost Dog Street Band. Instead, he wrote each song on the album to reflect a different era of country music. Today, he shared the track “Satisfied with Your Love,” an ode to his wife, Ashley Mae, and a nod to Western Swing.

Between his solo work and Lost Dog Street Band, Tod has written several love songs in the past. However, few are as straightforward as “Satisfied with Your Love.” About the song, he said, “’Satisfied with Your Love’ is a tune that doesn’t need a whole lot of explanation. This tune is just an expression of finding simple joy and peace within my marriage.”

Packed with steel guitar, barroom piano, and a beat that all but forces the listener to move, “Satisfied with Your Love” may be the biggest departure from Tod’s usual sound on the new record.

    Benjamin Tod on Shooting Star

Benjamin Tod discusses the concept of Shooting Star in the opening moments of the “Satisfied with Your Love” video. “The concept of this album is, basically, I wrote each song in a different production era of country music. Being born and raised in Nashville, it’s something that’s always been on my heart,” he explained.

He spoke more about the reason for this sonic departure in previous press materials. “That sound was always on the tip of my tongue. But it wasn’t until about five or six years ago when I started getting back to my roots, really listening to country again, and enjoying honky tonk,” he said. “This record feels like a homecoming.”
