Although growing up with Loretta Lynn as her grandmother, Emmy Russell wanted to explore other careers in life other than music. Even with Lynn praising her granddaughter’s talents on stage, Russell sought another life. But as if Lynn knew Russell would return to country music, the singer did exactly that as she landed a spot on American Idol. Shocking the judges with her talent, Russell appeared to be a dominating force week after week. Sadly, her time on the show ended as Abi Carter walked away as the next American Idol. But even without American Idol, Russell produced numerous memorable performances like when she covered “More Hearts Than Mine.”

While Russell ended her time on American Idol, she walked away with a growing fanbase that continues to love and support her. And one time, she decided to cover the song by Ingrid Andress. Not having a band or studio, Russell simply used a guitar and her couch to showcase her amazing voice.

Fans gushed over Russell’s talent and the song, writing, “I’m here from the American Idol video! At the angle, you look like Scarlett from Nashville. Love this song! Great Job.” One comment included, “It’s okay to be quiet. You have the softest sweetest tone that holds passion and power. Be you. You are phenomenal.”

Emmy Russell Ready For “The Climb”

Gaining love from fans, Russell seemed at peace with her time on American Idol. Once discussing her end, Russell said, “For me, the point of being here is you can be yourself and be successful, don’t run from rejection or pain, and facing hard things.” Pointing to her own performance, she continued, “I sang ‘The Climb’ from Miley Cyrus and I really think that she says it best. Sometimes you’re gonna have to lose….it’s the climb. The climb is Abraham’s Promised Land…the promise is the climb with God.”

In the end, Russell felt like a winner, insisting, “I didn’t make Top 3, but that’s a part of—that was God’s plan…Before I got eliminated, I think God told me, he was like, ‘Emmy, you’re not gonna be chosen by America, but I chose you.’”
