Recently stars and brothers of Oasis, Liam and Noel Gallagher announced they would be reuniting for for a few concerts in 2025. This comes as a surprise for fans not only due to the tour’s appeal but also because it seemed Noel and Liam were estranged. Past events would suggest such a thing, however, they’re brothers. Brothers fight, fight more, and fight until they get over it.

Regardless, the reunion does come as a shock. The feud between the two has existed for 20 years, with the inciting incident being Liam’s temporary departure from the band in 1994. Reportedly, Liam threw a tambourine at Noel’s head. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. In light of their reunion, here are some of the defining moments of the brotherly feud.

    The Release of “Whibbling Rivalry”

Whibbling Rivalry” was released in 1995 under the name Oas*s. The recording is an interview of the brothers in 1994 before their big commercial break-up. The 15-minute piece includes ups and downs and a very heated argument between the two. Using lots of profanity and other jarring language, the interview is a bit hilarious. Though, it also marks the initial demise of their relationship.

Thanks to its polarizing nature and gossip appeal. The interview reached the No. 52 spot on the UK Singles Chart. Despite this potentially being alarming to some Oasis fans, as stated previously—they are brothers. Frankly, it would be weird if they didn’t act this way from time to time.

Noel Quits After a Fight in Barcelona

In 2000, the band was in Barcelona intending to play a show until drummer, Alan White, hurt his arm resulting in a cancellation. Like most rock bands, the band then went out drinking. After a few too many pints, Liam questioned Noel about the legitimacy of his daughter with his ex-wife, Meg Matthews. It is reported that right after the comment, “Noel [was] on top of Liam in an instant, punching him, splitting his lip,” per The Guardian.

Consequently, Noel left the tour and didn’t forgive his brother after the fact. Saying, “I’ve never forgiven him because he’s never apologized,” to Q Magazine in a 2005 interview.

    Noel Leaves Oasis For Good

After another tempestuous quarrel with his brother in 2009 in France. Noel publicly divulged he would be leaving the band for good. “It is with some sadness and great relief … I quit Oasis tonight. People will write and say what they like, but I simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer,” he wrote in his official statement.

There have only been rumors regarding what was said during the fight. However, at the end of the day, it doesn’t really matter, as it wouldn’t bring the band back together. It’s that outlook that seemingly brought on the reunion despite the brothers’ turbulent relationship. They let bygones be bygones; and Liam, Noel, Oasis, and the fans are better off for it.
