Metallica Honors Edmonton Fan Who Died at Their Recent Concert

Metallica has paid tribute to a fan who died during their concert in Edmonton, Alberta on Friday (August 23). The band took to social media to share a photo of the fan, known as Viking. They included condolences for his family and honored his memory in the caption.

“Friday night, August 23rd, in Edmonton we lost a Metallica family member at the show,” wrote Metallica. “He died due to health conditions. Leaving the earthly body and onto the next adventure. Very sad when death happens, but we’re touched that he spent some of his final, hopefully joyful, time with us. Our condolences to the family and friends of Lorne ‘Viking.’ With Love and Respect, Metallica.”

According to a friend’s post on Facebook, per a report from Rolling Stone, Lorne suffered a medical emergency during the show. He “was taken out of the snake pit on a stretcher while EMS did aggressive CPR,” the post read, the “Snake Pit” being a VIP area in front of the stage.

Metallica Pay Tribute to Fan Who Passed Away During Their Concert, Fellow Fans Honor Him As Well

Many fans gathered in the comments of the Instagram post to share their condolences as well. One person wrote, “passing away at a Metallica concert sounds like a flex ngl.” Another wrote, “He was surrounded by family, connected by metal. Rest easy.”

Another fan commented that they were at the same show. “We were in the Snake Pit with him and had no idea this was happening at the time. Such a terrible tragedy, but there aren’t many happier places or mindsets to live your final moments in. Glad he got to see Metallica hit the stage. Condolences and love to his loved ones. We hope to see you again soon at a Metallica show in his honour.”

Chris Cafferty, guitarist for the band Savatage, shared condolences as well. “I love how you showed the respect to him as a ‘family’ member. I’ve always felt that way about not only the Savatage Legion but all metal fans. We all live our lives together as one big family. Directly and indirectly through the music and the fans. As the band also said my condolences to his family and close friends,” he wrote.
