Dylan Schneider has made a name for himself as a songwriter in Nashville. Since moving to town when he was a teenager, he has co-penned several hit songs for other artists. Additionally, he has released a handful of singles and EPs. Today (August 30), Schneider announced his debut full-length album Puzzled with the lead-off track “Momma’s House.” Listen to the new track below.

Earlier this week, Schneider sat down with American Songwriter to talk about his career, Puzzled, and more. During the conversation, he shared his thoughts on “Momma’s House” and why he thought it was time to release a full-length album.

Dylan Schneider on the Timing of Puzzled

“At the beginning, it was really, really fast-paced. Writing songs and touring a whole lot and wanting to put out EPs and introduce myself as an artist. I was younger when I started, it’s been eight years since I first moved to Nashville at 16,” Schneider said. “I’m glad that I held off on putting something like this out because I’ve become a better overall writer and a better overall artist. I understand what I want to say and who I want to be a little bit more,” he added.

“I just feel like it’s all come together recently and I’ve got a good team around me. And I had a lot of time to space out my writing over this year and lock in from time to time with a good group of people,” he explained. “After the EP that we put together back in April came out and we had a good batch of songs to build from, my goal was to get as many great songs as I could over the next few months. We’ve been looking at a September release since damn near the beginning of the year,” he revealed.

“It feels like the right time in my career. I’ve got some good momentum going on and I’ve done a lot of growing up and maturing as an artist, songwriter, and person. So, I’m really confident that now is the time to release my debut and really introduce myself as an artist,” Schneider said.

Dylan Schneider co-wrote “Momma’s House” with Michael Loften, Rodney Clawson, and Justin Wilson. Dustin Lynch released it as the third single from Tullahoma in 2020 and made it a hit. His rendition of the song Peaked at No. 8 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart and No. 5 on the publication’s Country Airplay chart. Now, Schneider is releasing his version of the song.

“We wrote that song back in 2018 at a writer’s camp. It sat around for a while and I played the demo for a lot of people. Every time I play the demo for people, they tell me, ‘You’ve got to put out your version. You’ve got to do it in your own style.’ That’s what we did with this one,” Schneider said.

“We cut it in the same key as the demo. So, it’s a little higher than Dustin’s cut. Then, working with Zach Abend, he put his splash and what we were doing so well with all the other songs on the album on it. His production style is so great,” he explained. “It’s definitely got a little bit of a different feel and it’s true to the original demo that we wrote,” he added.

“When we wrote it, we wrote three different bridges because they wanted some options. I think they ended up taking two of the three and making a different one. This one has the original bridge we wrote which is what I perform when I do it live,” he said. “I think it will be cool for people to get a taste of what it originally was.”
