Kenny Chesney finished his Sun Goes Down Tour with three nights at the Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts last weekend. The three-night stand started Friday (August 23) and wrapped up on Sunday (August 25). For one family, Saturday night ended in tragedy after a man allegedly stole a car from the stadium parking lot and crashed it into a family of six, killing a 10-year-old boy and seriously injuring the other passengers in the car.

According to a local CBS affiliate, Michael Escolas allegedly stole a Jeep Grand Cherokee from the Gillette Stadium parking lot. Later, Escolas rear-ended a family of six and killed the 10-year-old boy who has yet to be officially named by authorities. However, the ABC report states that family members gathered outside the courthouse in Wrentham holding signs featuring pictures of the boy and identifying him as Jaylen Bush-Victorian.

Escolas was allegedly under the influence of alcohol when he stole a Vermont couple’s Jeep Grand Cherokee from the parking lot. He was driving approximately 50 miles per hour when he slammed into the Nissan Altima stopped at a red light near the intersection of Route 1 and Interstate 495. He later told his wife that he “had one too many” and “messed up.”

The crash reportedly hospitalized Escolas as well as the six passengers in the Altima. Tragically, young Jaylen died at the hospital. While the conditions of the surviving family members have not been released, prosecutor Adam Lally said their injuries were “serious.”

Michael Escolas Was Drinking Before the Kenny Chesney Concert

Prosecutor Lally stated that Escolas started drinking at 1 p.m. on Saturday before the Kenny Chesney concert started. When police arrived at the scene of the crash, they found him to have a “strong and overwhelming” smell of alcohol. Additionally, his eyes were glassy and his speech was slurred according to police.

After slamming into the Altima, Escolas hit three more cars in the intersection with the stolen Jeep. In total, he damaged five cars in the crash, according to an NBC report.

Escolas is facing up to 20 years in jail for charges including motor vehicle manslaughter. He is being held on $100,000 cash bond.
