Famous rapper and hype man Fatman Scoop has reportedly died at the age of 53 today. His family has confirmed his death via an Instagram post.

“It is with profound sadness and very heavy hearts that we share news of the passing of the legendary and iconic FatMan Scoop,” the post reads. “Last night, the world lost a radiant soul, a beacon of light on the stage and in life.”

Fatman Scoop, whose real name is Isaac Freeman III, was performing at the Green And Gold Party concert in Hamden, Connecticut. Soon after the show began, the ”Be Faithful” hitmaker suffered from an emergency medical issue on stage while performing. He was quickly taken to a nearby hospital.

The rapper’s sudden death comes as a shock to fans and those in attendance of his last concert. The mayor of Hamden, Lauren Garrett, made an announcement to give her condolences to the loved ones that Scoop left behind.

“On behalf of the Town of Hamden, I offer my heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Isaac Freeman, known as Fatman Scoop,” said Garrett. “He was a wonderful performer with a wide following as evidenced by the thousands of fans that came to see what would be his last performance at Hamden Town Center Park.”

    How Did Fatman Scoop Die?

Several videos of the on-stage incident have floated around social media this morning. We have chosen not to include those videos out of respect for the deceased.

A number of Scoop’s contemporaries have taken to social media to send well-wishes to Scoop’s family and honor his legacy. One of those contemporaries is Missy Elliott, who collaborated with Scoop for her hit song “Lose Control”.

“[His] VOICE & energy have contributed to MANY songs that made the people feel HAPPY & want to dance for over 2 decades,” said Missy Elliott. “Your IMPACT is HUGE & will be NEVER be forgotten.”

“[He was a] great human being,” said Public Enemy’s Chuck D.

“I want to thank FATMAN SCOOP for being an embodiment of what hip hop was truly about,” said Questlove. “To just forget about your troubles and live in the moment and allow joy in. So sad to see you go my brother. You will be missed but you will NEVER be forgotten.”

The cause of Scoop’s death has not been released nor confirmed as of this article’s writing. We wish his family and loved ones nothing but the best as they grieve this tragic loss.
