Two of the biggest names in country music right now are Lainey Wilson and Cody Johnson. And given that country musicians seemingly love to work with one another. It comes as no surprise that these two have their sights set on doing a duet of Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn’sLouisiana Woman, Mississippi Man.”

Released by Twitty and Lynn in 1973, the song reached No. 1 on Billboards Hot Country Songs chart in August of that year. Additionally, the song marked the duo’s third successive single to reach the No. 1 spot on the charts. Given the song’s original success, it seems Johnson and Wilson are aiming for the same.

    Cody Johnson’s Idea

In an interview with Country Countdown USA, Johnson expressed his interest in working with Wilson. Overtly stating, “I’ve always wanted to do a song with Lainey Wilson.” The two also reportedly have a great relationship, as Johnson also said he went hunting with her boyfriend, Devlin “Duck” Hodges.

“I heard Loretta Lynn’s ‘Louisiana Woman Mississippi Man,’ I called Lainey and said we should record that song together, and she agreed. But we haven’t done it yet,” said Johnson.

Fans already suspected that the country musician circles ran tight, and here is more evidence proving it. With Johnson and Wilson’s impending duet, it seems Nashville has been gifted yet another powerhouse collaboration in a summer that has already been packed full of them.

    The Song’s Appeal

Other than the obvious factor of the song being about a woman from Louisiana, and Wilson being a native of the state. Another enticing element of Johnson’s motivation—the massive success he’s had from past collaborations. For reference, Johnson and Jelly Roll’s “Whiskey Bent” is one of of the songs that solidified Johnson as a key country music player. Reaching No. 52 on the Apple Music Chart, Johnson was able to utilize his talent with Roll’s star power to create one of his most decorative tunes.

Regardless of Wilson’s celebrity, Johnson is seemingly incredibly excited to work with her. Both artists have distinct styles and voices, and it will be entertaining to see how these two country icons will share the stage and make one another better from it. As of now, there have been no comments on a release date. So, we can wait and let the anticipation simmer.
