Having sold over 170 million albums, few country singers compare to Garth Brooks. Throughout his career, the singer produced hit songs like “Much Too Young”, “The Thunder Rolls”, and “Friends in Low Places.” First stepping into the music industry during the 1980s, the singer not only performed on stage but also the silver screen. He appeared on Saturday Night Live, Sesame Street, and even Muppets Tonight. He also married country music superstar Trisha Yearwood. But taking a moment to honor his career in country music, Chris Stapleton performed the hit song “Shameless” which left Brooks in tears.

Taking a trip back to 2020, Brooks received a special honor when he was awarded the Congress Gershwin Price for Popular Song. The night featured a celebration that included performances by Lee Brice, Keith Urban, and even Yearwood. But for fans and Brooks, nothing compared to when Stapleton took the stage. Showcasing his talents in front of country music, Stapleton dazzled on stage and even left Brooks crying.

Fans Can’t Get Enough Of Chris Stapleton

Looking at what fans had to say about the performance, many praised Stapleton, writing, “Chris Stapleton could sing Baby Shark and it would be a bop.” Another person added, “Another day of wishing Garth was on Spotify so I can scream this song specifically in the car.” For one fan, they took a moment to defend Stapleton. “People say Stapleton’s shows are boring. If you can’t feel his music, you won’t like it. He has a voice that makes you feel every word he says.”

After hitting the final note, Stapleton watched as the room erupted with applause. With the room giving him a standing ovation, Brooks wiped tears from his eyes. For Brooks, “Shameless” first hit the airwaves when he released the song in 1991. But although a top song for Brooks, it was written and recorded by Billy Joel a few years before the country singer showcased it on his Ropin’ the Wind album.

With Brooks watching the highlights of his career, Stapleton continues to expand his grip on country music as many consider him a top talent in the genre.
