Director David Fincher is known for quite the catalog of films, from Fight Club to Gone Girl to Se7en. He has a tendency to explore the darker sides of humanity, and that much is also evident in the music videos he has directed through the years. Let’s take a look at five of the most iconic music videos David Fincher ever directed!

1. “Vogue” by Madonna”

This iconic 1990 music video was directed by David Fincher and is probably one of his most well-known music video credits to date. It is entirely in black and white, which suits the subject matter and Madonna quite beautifully. Everything has a dreamy glow to it, and the lighting in this video is quite beautiful, despite the fact that there’s no color involved. The costuming, the movement, the choreography; it’s a great ode to the queer art of dance.

2. “Freedom 90” by George Michael

If “Vogue” was never a thing, this 1990 music video for George Michael’s “Freedom 90” would probably be Fincher’s best directorial work in music. It came out almost 35 years ago but still manages to be a beautifully timeless piece of work. It’s a time capsule of sorts that transports the viewer back to the age of supermodel obsession and visual excess.

3. “Home” by Iggy Pop

Another great Fincher-directed music video from 1990, the footage for “Home” by Iggy Pop is sorely underrated and relatively unknown by the mainstream. We’d imagine that’s exactly what Iggy Pop would want. It’s another black-and-white piece that puts focus on Pop’s notorious punk-rock charisma over anything else. It’s a delightfully authentic rock music video, and they really don’t make them like this anymore.

4. “Englishman In New York” by Sting

Fincher directed this video in 1998 for Sting’s hit track “Englishman In New York”. It’s a solid tribute to the artistically iconic but nevertheless controversial Quintin Crisp, the subject of the song, and who also appeared in the video. It’s also a stunning and affectionate dedication to New York City.

5. “Love Is Strong” by The Rolling Stones

Fincher directed the music video for “Love Is Strong” by The Rolling Stones in 1994. The music video came about shortly before Fincher’s success with Se7en. The promo video was an enormous success that put a focus on simplicity while still welcoming the absurd, this time in the form of giant women and Rolling Stones band members.
