Miranda Lambert Goes Behind the Scenes of New Album in Studio Diaries Video: “Full-Circle, Coming Back Home”

Miranda Lambert released a studio diaries video on YouTube yesterday, September 8, showing some behind-the-scenes footage of her time recording her forthcoming album. This video is labeled as Part 1, so there’s no telling how many sneak peeks Lambert will release to fans. Postcards from Texas drops on September 13, with four singles already released.

Lambert introduces the video at the start of her recording process at Arlyn Studio in Austin, Texas. She states that she’s “happy to be in Texas” despite the weather being “rainy and chilly” at the time. Lambert co-produced the record with her “good, good pal Jon Randall,” who showed up in the footage as well.

According to Lambert, she hasn’t made a record in Texas “since I was 18,” calling that record “my little independent album.” That would be her 2001 self-titled album, which didn’t chart, but eventually led to Kerosene in 2005. Peaking at No. 1 on the U.S. Country charts, Kerosene is often considered Lambert’s true debut. However, for Miranda Lambert herself, making Postcards from Texas in Austin has been a “full-circle, coming back home” moment.

Miranda Lambert Takes Fans Behind the Scenes, Gears Up for Release of New Album

Miranda Lambert further described working in Texas as “coming back home to the roots and starting fresh with a new label.” Lambert is releasing Postcards from Texas with Republic Records owned by Universal Music Group and Big Loud out of Nashville. Previously, she worked with RCA Nashville since Four the Record from 2011, and before that Columbia Records for Crazy Ex-Girlfriend in 2007 and Revolution in 2009.

Working with Republic and Big Loud for the first time fits into the Miranda Lambert canon. She and Jon Randall previously joined forces to launch their own Texas-based imprint of Big Loud last November.

Additionally, Lambert revealed that she’s not only working with a new label, but a new sound as well. It will be interesting to hear how the rest of the album plays out when it drops. However, the singles she’s released so far hit the signature Lambert style but with a new kind of vulnerability.

“Making new music always gives you a little bit of butterflies, which I love,” she said in the video, adding with a laugh, “because that means you still care after all these years so that’s exciting.”

She continued, “The process is slow sometimes, but worth it. It’s worth waiting for the right things to come to fruition and for the songs to find their life.”
