In late July, Carly Pearce performed at WE Fest in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. During her set, she began to open up to the crowd when a rude concertgoer began to heckle her. The Kentucky native did not mince words when she responded. She shared a few choice phrases while asking security to remove the heckler from the show.

“Somebody get him out of here,” Pearce said. “Get out of my show if you’re going to be an a**hole… Get the f**k out of my show. I do not have time for d**ks,” she added. In a recent interview with Audacy’s 103.7 KSON, Pearce reflected on the heated exchange and the backlash she received for it.

“Look, the boys do it all the time and it’s cool if they do it,” Carly Pearce said of male country stars removing people from their shows. For instance, Scotty McCreery recently booted a fan from his show after he hit a woman. Additionally, Chris Janson threatened to fight a fan for flipping him off. They were both applauded for their actions. Pearce, on the other hand, saw backlash for removing the heckler from her show.

“For me, I wanted to stand up for myself. I think a lot of people get away with bullying whether it’s on the internet or in schools to children or coming to shows and not thinking there’s ramifications for being mean,” Pearce explained. “Could I have maybe used different language? Absolutely. But I am from the state of Kentucky and I have a long line of redneck in me and it came out,” she added.

“You always try to make these moments of your music being really impactful and I have to tell you, I go to the grocery store and I have older ladies come up to me and whisper in my ear, ‘I really like what you said to that guy at your show.’ I mean, it’s really funny,” Pearce revealed.

Later in the interview, Pearce revealed her mother’s reaction to the incident. “I will say, my mom said ‘I’m proud of you for standing up for yourself but maybe use a different four-letter word,’” she said. “I get the spitfire from her.”
