September 11th marks a painful memory in the history of America. On that day back in 2001, thousands of innocent people perished when a group of terrorists targeted the World Trade Centers. Although rebuilding the area, the country and its citizens never forgot that tragic day and always took a moment to remember the lives lost. Over the years, politicians, celebrities, and even musicians took a moment to remember 9/11 and those who continue to fight for freedom. And while each year brings a new set of tributes, nothing compares to when Willie Nelson stood alongside some of the biggest names in Hollywood for “America the Beautiful.”

Joining forces, Fox, ABC, NBC, and CBS decided to create the America: A Tribute to Heros benefit show. Hoping to raise money to help those in need, the telethon raised over $200 million that went to the United Way’s September 11 Telethon Fund. While the event featured stars like Stevie Wonder, Mariah Carey, Bruce Springsteen, and Celine Dion, the producers saved the best for last as Nelson took the stage to close out the event.

Introduced by Clint Eastwood, Nelson found himself surrounded by stars like Adam Sandler, Goldie Hawn, Jim Carrey, Brad Pitt, Chris Rock, Robin Williams, Tom Cruise, Sylvester Stallone, Reba McEntire, Julia Roberts, and many, many more. While sharing the stage with every A-List actor in Hollywood, Nelson appeared at ease as he focused on the song and the tragedy the American people witnessed on 9/11.

Willie Nelson Dropping New Music In November

Although shared online years ago, fans continue to comment, explaining the first time they watched it. “All those celebrities in the background, so incredible to see them join in the song! Has there ever been such a gathering of famous people, ever?” Another person added, “Beautiful and emotional version! Always liked this song! R.I.P everyone who died that awful and most horrendous day! Support and strength from a Swede who loves America!”

As for Nelson, outside of showcasing his love for America, the country legend is currently preparing for the release of his 76th solo album, Last Leaf on the Tree. Hitting shelves in November, Nelson continues to leave his mark on country music even at 91 years old.
