How You Can See Alex Van Halen in Person as He Promotes His Forthcoming Memoir, ‘Brothers’

It’s been many years since Alex Van Halen has performed in front on an audience, but Van Halen fans will soon at least have the chance to see the band’s famous drummer in person at a few public events in the near future. Alex has scheduled a three-city book-signing tour in October to promote his new memoir, Brothers.

The appearances are scheduled to take place on October 21 at Barnes & Noble’s Fifth Ave. location in New York City, October 22 at Books & Greetings in Northvale, New Jersey, and October 24 at Robert Frost Auditorium in Culver City, California.

The New Jersey signing falls on the actual release date of the book.

The California event is part of the Live Talks Los Angeles series of onstage conversations. It will feature Van Halen chatting about the book with his collaborator on the project, author Ariel Levy. Live Talks Los Angeles also will offer people the opportunity to view the Q&A session virtually on October 29 at 6 p.m. PT, and on-demand for five days afterward. Those purchasing tickets to both the live and virtual events will also receive a signed copy of Brothers.

As previously reported, Brothers is described as “a love letter” to Alex’s late younger brother, Van Halen guitarist Eddie Van Halen, and was written while Alex was still mourning the death of his sibling.

According to a description posted at HarperCollins.com, the book offers an “intimate and open account” of Alex’s life, in which he “shares his personal story of family, friendship, music, and brotherly love in a remarkable tribute to his beloved brother and bandmate.”

Brothers will feature the 71-year-old Rock & Roll Hall of Famer’s recollections of his and his brothers’ childhood, including their early life in the Netherlands and their years growing up in Pasadena, California.

The memoir also includes Alex’s stories of his many years with Van Halen the band. He delves into the “musical politics, infighting, and … bad-boy behavior” that came with being a member of the legendary rock group.

“I was with him from day one,” Alex writes of his brother. “We shared the experience of coming to this country and figuring out how to fit in. We shared a record player, an 800-square-foot house, a mom and dad, and a work ethic.”

He continues, “Later, we shared the back of a tour bus, alcoholism, the experience of becoming famous, of becoming fathers and uncles, and of spending more hours in the studio than I’ve spent doing anything else in this life. We shared a depth of understanding that most people can only hope to achieve in a lifetime.”

Brothers also features previously unseen photos from Van Halen’s personal archives.

Fans who order the book from Van Halen’s official online store will receive a free exclusive collectible.

Rare Recording Included with the Brothers Audiobook

Brothers is available as a standard hardcover volume and as an audiobook narrated by Alex himself. The audio version of the memoir will feature a previously unreleased song titled “Unfinished,” that was the last piece of music Alex and his brother wrote together.
