5 Times Country Music Took Over the Hot 100 Chart

Country music hasn’t gotten as much love as we’d like on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. However, there have been a few times through the years when country tunes took over the chart, and non-fans of the genre got a taste of the very best country music has to offer. Let’s look at five times country music took over the Hot 100 chart!

1. “I Had Some Help” by Post Malone and Morgan Wallen

This more recent chart-topper comes from former rapper and now country singer Post Malone and the controversial Morgan Wallen. The collab “I Had Some Help” was teased for quite a while before it was released, and it quickly hit the top of the Hot 100 chart. It also did pretty well on the Global 200 charts.

It’s also worth noting that the country-pop track broke some serious streaming records when it first came out. There were a lot of hit country songs to come out in 2024, but this one had the most buzz around it.

2. “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” by Shaboozey

Shaboozey was featured in Beyonce’s recent venture into country music, Cowboy Carter. Before that feature, he was a somewhat obscure genre-bending musician who dabbled in alternative country, hip-hop, rock, and Americana.

When “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” came out in 2024, it marked the start of what will likely be a fast and exciting career. The song sat at no. 1 on the Hot 100 for nine weeks and stayed on the chart for 21 weeks.

3. “Amazed” by Lonestar

Back in 1999, “Amazed” by Lonestar was a difficult song to escape. Not that we wanted to. It’s a killer track that blends together classic country with a rock power ballad. It’s cheesy and sentimental at times, but it was a country-pop fan favorite on the charts. “Amazed” hit no. 1 on the Hot 100 and stayed on the chart for over a year.

4. “9 To 5” by Dolly Parton

This wouldn’t be a decent list of times country music took over the Hot 100 without bringing up Miss Dolly Parton. Back in 1980, “9 To 5” was a massive hit that even birthed a film, in which Parton also played a part. Today, it’s still a classic.

Few songs have the staying power that Parton’s works have, and “9 To 5” is just one of many. It debuted on the Hot 100 in 1980 at no. 1 and stayed on the chart for 26 weeks.

5. “Lady” by Kenny Rogers

The 1980s was a special era for country music, and Kenny Rogers definitely capitalized on it. “Lady” is one of Rogers’ more theatrical ballads, and it resonated beautifully with audiences that loved country, soul, and R&B.

“Lady” debuted on the Hot 100 in 1980 at stayed at no. 1 for six weeks. Fun fact: Lionel Richie wrote this one.
