Jane’s Addiction Cancels Tour to “Take Some Time Away as a Group” After Viral Onstage Fight

On Friday (September 13), Jane’s Addiction performed at Boston’s Leader Bank Pavilion. During the show, tensions between Dave Navarro and Perry Farrell seemed to rise through their version of “Mountain Song” and boiled over during “Ocean Size.” As Navarro played the guitar solo, Farrell got in his face and eventually threw a punch at him. Then, Eric Avery (bass) and event staff pulled the enraged singer off the stage.

The explosive event left many fans speculating about the future of Jane’s Addiction. Earlier today (September 16), the band released the statement that many fans were dreading. “To all the fans, the band have made the difficult decision to take some time away as a group,” the statement began.

“As such, they will be canceling the remainder of the tour. Refunds for the canceled dates will be issued at your point of purchase—or if you purchased from a third-party resale site like StubHub, SeatGeek, etc., please reach out to them direct,” the band added.

Janes Addiction, Dave Navarro Made Previous Statements.

Yesterday (September 14), Navarro took to social media to share a cryptic message with his fans and followers. The post includes a black-and-white photo of him sitting onstage holding an acoustic guitar with the Jane’s Addiction logo painted on the back. The alt-rock icon simply wrote, “Goodnight…” in the post’s caption. The comments were full of support and encouragement from his friends, fans, and fellow artists.

After the incident took place, Jane’s Addiction released a statement on the band’s official Instagram account. “We want to extend a heartfelt apology to our fans for the events that unfolded last night,” the statement read. “As a result, we will be canceling tomorrow night’s show in Bridgeport.” The statement also noted that those who bought tickets would get refunds.

Perry Farrell’s Wife Spoke Out

Additionally, Farrell’s wife, Etty Lau Farrell took to social media to add some context to the events that unfolded on Friday night. “Perry’s frustration had been mounting night after night, he felt that the stage volume had been extremely loud and his voice was being drowned out by the band,” she revealed in her post. “Perry had been suffering from tinnitus and a sore throat every night,” she added.

“The band started the song ‘Ocean’ before Perry was ready and did the count off,” she further explained. “The stage volume was so loud at the point, that Perry couldn’t hear pass [sic] the boom and the vibration of the instruments and by the end of the song, he wasn’t singing, he was screaming just to be heard.”

She further alleged that bassist Eric Avery got a “few cheap shots” in on Farrell as he helped to escort him off of the stage.
